I'm Brandon Evans, this is Patriot Sports.
Not many names come to mind when we say formerly known as...maybe Prince...and they'll certainly be partying like its 1999 at the annual cocktail party in Jacksonville.
Let's take a look at Georgia now and how the season has unfolded...
On the positive side...
Georgia is ranked in the Top 10, and if they win Saturday, they'll be the odds-on favorite to win the SEC East, provided they beat Ole Miss and Auburn.
The Bulldogs have one of the top offenses in the country, averaging almost 40 points per game.
Aaron Murray has put up some impressive numbers, passing for over 19-hundred yards and 16 TDs. Meanwhile, the freshman backfield duo of Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall have rushed for more than 11-hundred yards.
Now, the downside, the team has struggled to find its identity on defense, multiple suspensions and injuries could be to blame, but the facts are that they are allowing 24 points per game, that's 50th in the country.
Meanwhile, Florida has one of the best defenses in the country, allowing just 12 points per game.
The Gators are undefeated, having beat LSU and South Carolina already this season.
So the stage is set, an epic battle, Las Vegas is picking Florida by about a touchdown...that game will air at 3:30 this Saturday. It should be a good one. No. 2 Florida at 7-0 vs No. 10 Georgia at 6-1.
This year's game between Georgia and Florida means as much as it ever has...especially here in Georgia for Bulldog fans...let's look at those SEC Standings...
As I said, the winner will sit atop the SEC East Standings, and provided the winner, wins out, they'll be playing in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta against most likely the winner of Alabama and LSU.
Coming up in November, you'll be able to catch Mercer home games right here in TV 38...
Now, this isn't Mercer basketball...its the Iceman George Gervin, who is at Mercer tonight...
Gervin is a Hall-of-Famer, inducted in 1996...Gervin played in both the ABA and NBA...
For his career, he averaged over 26 points per game...was the 1979-80 NBA All-Star Game MVP...and has a laundry list of other awards in his illustrious career...
The basketball great will be on campus at Mercer to speak to the team and fans. I'm heading over just after the show be and I'll have a story on Friday's NewsNight...as well as more Mercer basketball as we near the season tip on November 10th.
Switching back to football, as the one and only undefeated team in the NFL hasn't received much press over the last week...That's because the 6-0 Falcons were off last week...
[take vo]
The Dirty Birds have been stellar this season, finding a way to win every game even when they didn't play their best game - that's the true mark of a champion.
Matt Ryan has certainly earned the nickname of Matty Ice thus far this season, putting up strong numbers and even making his case for early consideration for the league MVP.
Ryan is completing nearly 68 percent of his passes, throwing for more than 17-hundred yards and 14 touchdowns in just six games...He has 6 picks and no fumbles on the season.
Ryan has been aided by the three-headed monster that is the receiving core, consisting of Roddy White, Julio Jones, and the age-less wonder Tony Gonzalez.
This week's matchup pits a former Falcon - Mike Vick - against his old team. The Falcons will take on the Eagles in Philly this Sunday. That game is at 1 p.m.
While football is in full swing, baseball is coming to an end...The World Series began last night with Game 1, and it didn't disappoint...
Pablo Sandoval hit...not one, not two...but three home runs as the Giants won Game one in San Fran 8-3...
Game 2 is tonight. Detroit @ San Francisco
The Probable Pitchers are the Giants Madison Bumgarner and Detriot's Doug Fister. Game starts at 8 p.m.
That's all the sports for now, we'll have more on high school football matchups tomorrow and the Iceman George Gervin...Until then...I'm Brandon Evans...good night.
