Houston County will move on to the next round of the GHSA Class AAAAA state softball tournament.

The Lady Bears beat Ware County 6-2 in the “if” game Thursday. They, being the home team in this one despite being on the road, scored one run in the second and third and then four in the bottom of the sixth. Those turned out to be pretty critical considering the fact Ware County scored two in the top of the seventh.

Hayley Tierce worked all seven innings for Houston County. She scattered six hits, walked one and struck out eight. She also helped her cause with a two-for-three performance at the plate – one of those a double - that included an RBI and a run scored. Amber Coy also went 2-3 and drove in one and scored one while Hayley Boggess was 1-3 but also had a sacrifice to lead the team in RBIs. She had two on the day. The Lady Bears finished with 11 hits in all.

Houston County will next play Union Grove the Region 4, No. 1 seed. (The Lady Bears are the No. 3 out of Region 2.) Union Grove swept Northside-Columbus two games to none, 2-0 and 6-0.

Those games are slated for Wednesday and Thursday – times to be determined.
