Fifth Newton – yes, that’s the name, one of several Central Fellowship won’t long forget – helped Briarwood Christian race past the Lancers 62-25 Friday at Windsor Academy.

Newton got things going with a two-yard run for a score. He also kicked the point after.

That was to be one of two touchdowns the visitor would score in the first. It nearly doubled that in the second, putting up 27. Central Fellowship managed 12 in the second as well to trail by 29.

The Lancers scored once more in the third and once in the fourth while Briarwood also scored once in the third and twice in the fourth.

Jake Brooks scored Briarwood’s second touchdown from 36 yards out.

Central Fellowship got back in it in the second when Ezra Hargrove scored on a three-yard run and Shaw Doolittle followed that with a run from the 4. The extra point missed on the first score and the two-point conversion on the second but that still cut the lead to two.

That is until Jarrett Keene broke free for a 54-yard run. The point after by Newton was good. That was followed by a fumble recovery in the endzone by Jake Brooks – the PAT was no good - and then Brooks followed that up with an 85-yard touchdown run. Newton made the point after on that one.

Jason Hildebrand for the Lancers blocked a punt and score to help Central Fellowship get started on the right foot in the third.

Newton, however, countered that with a 10-yard run. He did come up short on the two-point conversion, however.

Finally, Jackson Sims scored on a 35-yard run for the visitor and Marcus Curry scored on a 70-yard run for the Lancers. Both tried two-point conversions and both failed.
