The figure comes from a study conducted by the Middle Georgia Regional Commission, according to a press release issued Thursday by Central Georgia Health System.
"The report shows that Peach Regional Medical Center's expansion will have an enormous positive impact on our local economy, which makes us very proud," Nancy Peed, PRMC CEO, is quoted in the press release. "We thank the residents of Peach County for their unwavering support and will continue to work hard to ensure that the citizens of the community have access to high quality, affordable health care services."
The press release did not offer details on how the economic impact was determined.
The $28 million project is being built on a 20-acre site just west of Interstate 75 and about eight miles west of Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins. It is underwritten by Central Georgia Health System and the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.
The 68,000 square foot building will house a 25-bed hospital, emergency center, operating suite and outpatient services.
It will replace a more than 50-year-old hospital in Fort Valley. The expected completion date will come during the summer of next year, the press statement specified.
