Your Houston County Weather: Partly sunny, highs in the mid to upper 80s.

28 years ago Warner Robins convenience store clerk Taressa Stanley was killed during an armed robbery attempt. Now the man who once confessed to the crime is fighting for a new day in court. Yesterday HC Superior Court Judge George Nunn denied bond for 50 year old Timothy Johnson pending trial. He pled guilty to the shooting back in 1984, but the GA Supreme Court overturned his conviction based on evidence that Johnson didn’t understand his legal rights. He was quickly re-indicted, and has been in jail ever since waiting for a new trial. His lawyers say they’ll appeal Thursday’s bond denial.

Perry Hospital has been named as one of the top medical facilities in the country for exemplary care and service. The Joint Commission. The leading accreditor of health care organizations in the U.S.; selecting the local hospital as one of just 620 top performers nation-wide.

29 percent of children in Houston County have an affiliation with Robins Air Force Base, and 10 percent have a parent who is active duty military. To better understand and meet their needs, the Houston County School System and officials at Robins Air Force Base are hosting the Second Annual Georgia Military Child Education Conference. It takes place next week.

The Joint STARS operation at Robins Air Force Base will have a new commander. Colonel Kevin Clotfelter will replace Brigadier General William Welsh as commander of the 116th Air Control Wing on October 25th.

The Georgia Department of Labor reporting on the employment rate, and it was pretty much good news, bad news, and no news at all. First, the bad news – the Warner Robins area lost 100 paid positions in August. Now the good – Macon added around 1200 jobs to the local mix. And the no news at all – there was about 25 hundred more people going to work in August than in July, but those were seasonal education workers, so the overall permanent job rate in Georgia remains the same.

The members of the Warner Robins Fire Department have long been admired for their commitment to community service, and not just by dousing water on flaming buildings. Once again, this year’s local “Fill the Boot” campaign raised the most money in the state of Georgia among fire departments for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, logging in at over 110,000 dollars and nearly 2 and half million in 23 years. Chief Robert Singletary accepting the “Golden Axe Award” from the MDA this week.

The 30th Annual Georgia Golden Olympics continues through the weekend. Over 600 competitors age 50 and up taking part in the 4 day schedule of events hosted again by the Warner Robins Recreation Department.

The Perry Players beginning their 31st season tonight with the musical “Crowns”. The show is an award winning production which features gospel music. Its being directed locally by Teresa Mitchell.

The Georgia Invitational Golf Tournament rolls on today at Pine Oaks Golf Course on base. Its one of the largest fund raisers for the Museum of Aviation.
