Veterans High and Jones County’s softball teams squared off Wednesday as part of the Brookwood tournament, it continuing on through the weekend.

The game, played at Gordon College, was unique in that both teams wore camoflauge jerseys (see picture) to show support for the nation’s military members.

According to a release, there was no gate fee for the game. However, donations were taken up with nearly $550, according to the release, being raised. The money will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project, the release reads.

Unfortunately for the Lady Warhawks that was the extent of the good things to happen to them as they went on to fall to Jones County 4-2.

It was actually the third loss in the last four games – a six-game win streak prior to that and the team 14-3 before those aforementioned losses (now 15-16 overall).

Veterans led the game 2-0 in the second but Jones County tied it in the fourth and then plated the go-ahead runs in the fifth. It out-hit the Lady Warhawks 9-3.
