The latter remains to be seen but he has found the Eagles and Demons willing partners in doing the “rubbing”.
In fact a lesser man – one not built of Marine stock – might have even been rubbed the wrong way as both schools really took it to the Warhawks. Northside was the latest, amassing 373 total yards en route a 49-0 win.
One lesson Veterans learned was to keep the ball away from Keshun Hill – especially on punts. Hill returned a punt 77 yards for a touchdown. A possession later he did the same thing but this one was called back for a block in the back. And those came on the heels of his first score, a 59-yard run that started up the middle, and his second, a 25-yard pass from Glenn Smith. Those both came in the first quarter and with Isaac Rivera’s points after put the Eagles up 14-0.
Smith on the other hand carried the ball seven times and turned one of those – a 24-yard run in the third quarter – into a touchdown. He was also 4-7 passing for 58 yards.
As far as the defense, it limited Veterans to just 48 yards on the ground, 31 in the air. Ben Thomas was the Warhawks’ top rusher. He carried the ball 17 times for 39 yards.
Veterans will now look to do a little rubbing of its own as it hosts Harris County, a team that Houston County beat the first week of the season 35-23, next week.
