Florida is headed to the World Series. The 11-12-year-olds from Windermere Little League beat North Carolina 8-4 Monday to earn honors as the Southeast champions.

It scored two runs in the bottom of the first. North Carolina, which also fell to Florida in Pool play 4-2, scored four runs in the third to go out front. Florida answered with one in the bottom of the inning to cut it to one and then tied it in the fourth. A four-run fifth, highlighted by Amanda Fleming’s two-out, two-run single proved to be the difference.

The first time the two faced each other Lauren Mathis worked all six innings and struck out 11. Monday she worked five innings, surrendered just one hit and fanned six.

Florida out-hit North Carolina 8-5. North Carolina was also charged with four errors, two of which contributed to runs.
