Michael Dickerson, Air Force Services Agency spokesman, confirmed to the Air Force Association that a legal review showed "no requirement to have Bibles in the lodging checklist."
The response followed a protest from the Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers who push, according to the AFA, to "free the U.S. military of policies that it purports promote religion."
The group claimed that placement of Bibles in on-base rooms was "a special privilege for Christianity." Bibles are placed in on-base lodging by the Gideons.
The decision follows a recent Air Force move to delete suggestions contained in Squadron Officer School reading material that young officers attend chapel regularly.
Dickerson said the Air Force has not directed the removal of Bibles from Air Force inns although a revised checklist will take effect in fiscal year 2013 beginning Oct. 1.
"We continue to review the situation and weigh our multiple First Amendment practices and obligations," he told the AFA.
AFA noted that the atheist group works to remove what it calls "insensitive practices that illegally promote religion over non-religion or unethically discriminate against religions or differing beliefs."
Well, what are you doing with the US dollars and coins which states "In God We Trust" and One Nation Under God"?
I never knew there was a right to have bibles to be required in military lodging. I must have missed that in the Constituiton.

To sum up my 1st comment: not having Bibles endorses atheism. It's weird that some words on a page hiding in a drawer are so offensive to someone who doesn't believe in it.

I used to be an atheist too, but one of the signs intelligence is to read both sides of the story from credible sources. I will be praying for you and hope to see you with Our Lord when He is revealed in all His glory! It's gonna happen whether you think so or not.
