That’s not the weather report but how things are playing out at the Southeast Region going on this week here.
Florida, which is in Pool A in the Pool play tournament, improved to 2-0 via a 13-3 win over Virginia.
It was another one of those “closer than it looked” games until late. Florida, the visitor, scored one run in the first and another in the second. Virginia answered with two in the bottom half of the inning to tie it.
Florida scored two in the third to go back on top and again Virginia answered in the bottom of the inning, this time with one to make 4-3.
See? Closer than it looked.
And, both went scoreless in the fourth. Then came the fifth, however, where Florida put eight runs on the board to pull away. It added its final run in the sixth while out-hitting Virginia 12-5.
Florida and Virginia entered the day as the only two teams in their Pool undefeated – with West Virginia and South Carolina falling on the first day. Now, it is Florida that controls its own destiny.
As far as Georgia, which is in Pool B, it fell to 0-2 in Pool play after falling 6-3 to Alabama. Alabama on the other hand improved to 1-1.
The Georgia squad actually held a 3-0 lead heading into the fourth – a run in each of the first three innings – but couldn’t hold on. Alabama, which was the visiting team, scored one in the fourth, tied it with two in the fifth and then won it in the sixth with three runs that Georgia had no answer for.
The other two teams in Pool B, North Carolina and Tennessee entered Friday’s competition at 1-0 and were to play in the late game (please check back later for results).
Also, West Virginia improved its standing in Pool A to 1-1 with a 3-1 win over South Carolina. South Carolina on the other hand fell to 0-2.
