The Band of the Air Force Reserve Command at Robins Air Force Base has achieved a first for Air Force military bands.

On Jan. 29, the local group was nominated by the Nashville/Mid-South Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for a regional Emmy Award. Although the band’s 2009 television performance, “Holiday Notes from Home,” finished fourth in the voting, the nomination was still a landmark occasion for Air Force musicians.

The 2009 program featured vocalists Amy Grant and Brian McKnight and was broadcast Christmas Eve and morning over the American Forces Network to 177 countries and U.S. military ships at sea.

In a press release announcing the honor, Lt. Gen. Charles Stenner, Air Force Reserve Command commander, said the holiday program was “just one way for us to say thanks to all our military men and women and their families for their patriotism.”
