The Senator will also serve on the appropriations, finance, rules, reapportionment and banking committees. On the Appropriation Committee he will chair the sub-committee for higher education.
“I am pleased to have been asked to chair the sub-committee of Appropriations for Higher Education,” Staton said.
“Higher education is the crown jewel of Georgia and makes an enormous difference in the lives of Georgians and the prosperity of our state. I intend to work with Governor Deal and members of the General Assembly to protect the Hope Scholarship program for future generations.”
The Senator said he is proud to serve on committees handling some of Georgia’s most important issues.
“I am grateful to have added the banking and rules committees to my responsibilities,” he said. “The Rules Committee is responsible for setting the calendar of the Senate and for deciding which bills to bring before the Senate."
"I will also serve as vice-chairman of the Transportation Committee. Certainly transportation is one of the most significant issues for Georgia," he continued.
"As a member of the Finance Committee, I look forward to reviewing the recommendations of the Tax Council as we seek to determine the best tax system for our state that will be pro-business and helpful for job creation.”
The 152nd Legislative Session of the Georgia General Assembly convened Monday at the State Capitol.
