And then there were four….The Southeastern Region Little League Baseball Tournament rolls on today, with a pair of semi-final games, part of the road to Williamsport. At 1 Tennessee and North Carolina pair off; then at 6 it’s the hometown Warner Robins boys facing Virginia. The winners meet in the finals on Friday, with the champion heading to the World Series. Of course, we’ll have all those games for you on AM 1350.
He demanded a recount – now the State of Georgia is going to give it to him. Spencer Price and incumbent Cecil Staton sparred in the Republican primary July 31st in State Senate District 18. Yesterday the Georgia Secretary of State finally certified the final vote totals, and Staton’s lead over challenger Price fell to below 1 percent. That means a recount is automatically required by law because of the slim margin.
We don’t have a lot of the details yet, but there was another armed robbery in Warner Robins last night. It seems a lone gunman held-up the Dollar General on Russell Parkway around 9. No one was hurt, and the bandit did flee the scene on foot. Police say they’ll give us more details as they continue to work the evidence.
One hard decision – that’s what Robins Air Force Base installation commander Mitch Butikoffer is calling the decision to close down daily service at the Horizon Club – that’s the old base officer’s club. While the cherished building had been the scene for promotion ceremonies, retirement parties, and just everyday meals for years, it hadn’t aged well, and now it is just too expensive to keep its kitchens going. The facility has reopened as an event center, but food has to be catered in.
Alcohol by the drink and by the bottle now legal in Houston County on Sunday afternoons – yesterday the County Commission passed the ordinance that officially makes it so. Voters in last weeks primary gave Sunday sales their approval by a two to one pace.
A heads-up to late night travelers on I-75 – there will be construction on the southbound side of the interstate between exits 117 and 127 – that’s in Houston and Dooly Counties. One lane will be closed between 7pm and 7am through Saturday.
Good fire protection coverage is critical to any city and affects everything from insurance rates to attracting new business. Perry City Council know that importance, and last night paved the way for its second fire station, selecting a design from Parrish Construction and approving just over one million dollars to build the facility.
