“They’ve got a pretty good defense,” Veterans Head Coach David Bruce said of Rutland, the Warhawks’ Homecoming opponent today (Friday) (kickoff 7:30 p.m. at Perry). Veterans, 1-3 overall, and the Canes, 2-2 overall, will both be looking to earn their first Region 2-AAAA win – both 0-1. “They’re tough to run on and they do a pretty good job in the secondary as well.

“Offensively they’re kind of a mixed bag like us. They’ll spread it out and they’ll throw it at you and they’ll run it at you. They’ve got some pretty good athletes.

“They can beat you now. If you go to sleep on Rutland they’ll sure enough put it on you.”
