Cameras Approved
Cameras Approved
The Houston County School Board has examined the proposal for school bus cameras for months and was ready to vote on the request during their Tuesday meeting. The proposal was passed unanimously.

The plan right now is to have three cameras along the outside of the bus, which would take photo and about a two second video of anyone who illegally passes the school bus.

These cameras will be installed on 20 school buses, and come at no cost to the schools or tax payers. The cameras will be installed by American Traffic Solutions... and ATS will take a percentage of the funds collected from traffic violations until the cameras are paid for.

There are some contingencies which accompanied the school board vote. This includes approval of the written agreements by all lawyers involved.

Frank Scott is the Transportation Director for Houston County schools. He says these cameras are all about protecting students.

He adds these cameras will also take some of the stress off of bus drivers.

There is no definite date planned for the installation of the cameras, but Mr. Walmer says now that the plan has been approved by the board, he would like to get them on the buses as soon as possible
