The Middle Georiga Regional TSPLOST Roundtable reached a decision today to let voters decdied wheter or not to raise the sales tax.

The Roundtable is a 22 member group from eleven middle Georgia counties put in place to draft a list of transportation related projects to be funded by a proposed one cent sales tax increase.

If voters approve the increase more than $560 million will go towards funding transportation projects in the eleven counties.

Houston County Commissioner Tommy Stalnaker says his role in Government is to allow the people to decide.

The vote is set to take place July 31, 2012.

How does this one cent work? Is it really raising our taxes from 7% to 8%?

Who elected this 22 member group? Who "put them in place?" Is it surprising that a group of people who have a vested interest in more government funded projects unanimously vote to take more money from taxpayers?

I guess I wonder who in the world would vote to raise their own taxes in this bad economy, especially when the city is already crazy enough to raise property taxes!
