Robins Air Force Base's C-130 programmed depot maintenance team has taken the Secretary of Defense's Robert T. Mason Depot Maintenance Award for 2012.

The award recognized the remarkable turnaround by a unit once maligned for its inability to overhaul C-130 aircraft within specified timeframes.

However, that changed remarkably in 2011. As the award announcement noted, the Robins team "increased C-130 aircraft availability by returning 64 aircraft to operating units, reduced work in-progress from 41 to 36 aircraft, slashed flow days from 102 to 69, achieved 100 percent on-time delivery by the end of the fiscal year and lowered customer reported deficiencies by 60 percent despite increased operational and repair demands."

The award will be presented at the Secretary of Defense Awards banquet Nov. 15 during the 2012 Defense Department Maintenance Symposium and Exhibition at the DeVos Place Convention Center in Grand Rapids, Mich.
