At this point, no military aircraft or personnel are scheduled to use Robins Air Force Base as a refuge from Tropical Storm Isaac.

That status came Monday morning from Robins spokesperson Christine Miner. That could change, however, if the storm grows to hurricane force before it strikes the Gulf coast sometime on Tuesday.

National Guard units throughout the Southeast including Georgia have been alerted to render assistance as needed, according to a Pentagon news release on Sunday.

“The National Guard Bureau’s crisis management element has been alerted to work 24/7 to assist affected states in positioning people and equipment to facilitate the most effective response to the storm,” Guard officials were quoted in a press statement.

The Air Force Reserve has taken action to move aircraft from Isaac’s path. The Pentagon said aircraft from the 919th Special Operations Wing at Duke Field, Fla., are seeking refuge at Fort Campbell, Ky. The 325th Fighter Wing at Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., is repositioning F-22 fighters to Sheppard Air Force Base, Kansas, while the 482nd Fighter Wing at Homestead Air Reserve Base, Fla., is shifting assets to Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base, Texas.

Also, tankers from the 927th Air Refueling Wing at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., have temporarily moved to Pease Air National Guard Base, N.H., and McGhee-Tyson Air National Guard Base, Tenn.

Meanwhile, hurricane condition 3 has been declared at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., the largest military installation in Isaac’s projected path. According to the Pentagon report, base residents have been told to monitor storm reports, secure lawn furniture, trash cans, potted plants and other loose objects.

“Those planning to evacuate should know the route they will take and consider leaving before an evacuation order is issued,” Eglin officials have warned.
