The guest of honor at the ceremony today was 89-year-old JD Lankford, who was a taken as a Prisoner of War during World War II at the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Lankford was held prisoner of 188 days and he took the time to speak a little bit about that experience today.
Mr. Lankford says this day of recognition is important so people understand how they came to gain the freedoms they have today.
JD Lankford continued his Army service after World War II as a Sergeant First Class during the Korean War. During the course of his military career he earned 9 bronze stars and a purple heart.. and he says he would do it again.
