David Bruce

Just in time for Halloween … “Offensively they’ve kind of been a mixed bag.” So said Veterans Head Coach David Bruce of West Laurens. (Or was he summing up the thoughts of kids all around the U.S. on Trick or Treat night as they sorted through their goodies? OK, maybe not.) “They went with the spread for several games,” Bruce said, in regard to their Friday night host in Dexter. “They went with the I some. And then in the last game they were almost exclusively in the I formation.

“Not exactly sure (what they’re going to do, so) we’ve got to prepare for it all. “They’ve got 25 formations. And that doesn’t count right and left.

So, needless to say we’re up here until midnight Sunday trying to get it all figured out.”

The Warhawks are of course coming off a tough loss to Perry. West Laurens on the other hand shut out Howard 34-0. Both are 2-2 in Region 2-AAAA. So is Perry and two others are 3-1 (Westside is the only one undefeated at 4-0).

Bruce may not have been talking Halloween when he mentioned “mixed bag”, but one thing’s for sure. On Friday night (7:30 p.m. kickoff) one team’s going to come away feeling the “trick” and the other the “treat”.
