The Houston County area will have plenty of representation/competitors at the 15th Annual GSGA Senior Women’s Championship set to take place Monday and Tuesday at Alpharetta Athletic Club-East in Milton.

They are: Jo Ann Nelson, Lucky Mahler and Mary Jo Adams from Warner Robins, Mary Riley, Diana Mcclarnon, Fran Coody and Brenda Duke from Perry, Sissi Gann and Jeanne Follett from Kathleen and Ann Clark from Centerville.

The two-day event, according to a release from the GSGA, consists of 121 players, divided into 11 flights, competing over 36 holes of stroke play.

Entries were open to female amateur golfers who are GSGA members and age 50 and above as of Aug. 27. The flights were determined by lowest USGA Handicap Indexes.

The GSGA Senior Women’s Championship began in 1998. The champion receives the Ceil Maclaurin Trophy, which was given by Maclaurin during the inaugural Championship. Maclaurin, a 1992 inductee into the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame, is a legendary figure in women's amateur golf in Georgia, having won eight Georgia Women's Amateur titles as well as the 1976 USGA Senior Women's Amateur Championship.

A total of just seven women have won the Championship in its 14-year history. Current champion Brenda Pictor of Marietta owns the most titles with four, including three straight (2007, 2009-11). Claudeen Lindberg of Atlanta has three titles (1999, 2003, ’06). Others who have won multiple titles include Ginette Spinucci of Stone Mountain (2001, ’02) and Ena Harvey of Greensboro (2004, ’05).

The course will play to 5,583 yards and a par 72 for the Championship and first flights, the only flights eligible for the overall title. The second through 10th flights will compete at 5,041 yards and a par 72.
