The name of the Liberty Bell Award was changed to the Brenda Morton Liberty Bell Award to honor the retirement of Magistrate Judge Brenda Morton, a non-lawyer Magistrate that has served Houston county for many years.
This year's recipient is Linita Berryman. Ms. Berryman is a victim's advocate with the Rainbow House Children's Resource Center. Ms. Berryman was recognized for her tireless efforts in supporting the children of Houston county who have been victims of physical and sexual abuse.
Prior to the presentation of the award, remarks were made by Judge Katherine Lumsden, Judge Jason Ashford and Erikka B. Williams, Chief Assistant District Attorney of the Houston County DA's Office. In addition to her plaque, Ms. Berryman's name will be added to plaque on the wall at the Houston County Superior Court House.
Quote: The Bar Association is pleased to bestow this honor on Ms. Berry. We can't image a better recipient for this award. She truly advocates on behalf of those who often have no voice in the court system.
