Georgia found out what it was made of Saturday. That is if there was any doubt.

The boys from Warner Robins American, after being stunned by North Carolina the day before in Southeastern Region Pool play, found themselves trailing Florida 5-0 after two innings of the second day.

If it was do-or-die – and facing the possibility of being 0-2 in Pool B definitely presented that probability – Georgia began its comeback. It scored a run in the bottom of the inning and then three more in the third. Florida picked back up one of those in the fourth but Georgia plated two more in the bottom of the inning. It then held Florida scoreless over the next two innings.

Tee Adams earned the win with four solid innings. He gave up three hits and one run. He only walked one and struck out two.

Each team finished with nine hits. For Georgia, that was spread out over eight players. Jackson Will was the only one to net multiple hits. He was 2-3 with an RBI.

Adams, Bryce Morgan, Reggie Ling, Connor Bookout and Coby Reed all contributed RBIs.

Tennessee earned its first win in the Southeastern Region tournament while dropping West Virginia to 0-2.

Tennessee won 6-0. It had 10 hits and scored four runs in the third, and added a pair of insurance runs off Brock Myers’ two-run homer in the sixth. Myers finished the day 2-3 with two runs scored and the two driven in.

Teammate Luke Brown was 3-4 with a run scored and an RBI and Phillip Carter was 2-3 with two driven in.

Jacob Rucker worked five and a third for Tennessee to earn the win. He scattered all four of West Virginia’s hits.

So far the Southeastern Region has featured some great comebacks. None have been bigger than Alabama’s win over North Carolina.

The Beehive Little League team from Auburn was down 8-0 heading into the top of the fifth. Clay Golson’s grand slam homerun took care of four of those runs. Then in the sixth, Reid Whitaker went deep with a man on base. Ryan Lambert followed with a solo shot and then Cal Burton launched the third of the inning. Grand total: Five runs. Alabama held on for the 9-8 win.

Wes Starr, one of four Alabama pitchers, got the win despite only working two-thirds of an inning; he didn’t give up a hit or walk and struck out one. North Carolina used five pitchers. Anthony Saieed took the loss. He gave up three hits and two runs, also in working two-thirds of an inning.

Just as fascinating is the fact the win knotted up Pool B with every team – Alabama, Georgia, Florida and North Carolina 1-1. Alabama plays Georgia at 10 a.m. Monday and Florida plays North Carolina. The winner of each of those matchups will earn a semifinal berth. The loser will have to settle for the consolation round.

Jason Volpicelli described himself as a line drive hitter. The leadoff hitter for Virginia was hitting line drives on Saturday all right. The problem for South Carolina was that they were line drives out of the ballpark.

Volpicelli homered twice to help lead Virginia to a blowout, 12-1, win over South Carolina in four innings.

Virginia scored two in the first, six in the second and four in the fourth while out-hitting South Carolina 9-4. South Carolina scored its lone run in the second.

Josh McQuaig worked all four innings for Virginia and earned the win. He gave up four hits, walked one and struck out six as Virginia, at 2-0, remained the only undefeated team in Pool A, and overall.
