Education Update
There are many achievements among Houston County's schools, it's teachers, and it's students.

Four Houston County High Schools have received industry certification for graphic arts in the categories of "Introduction to Graphic Communications" and "Advertising and Design". The schools include Houston County High, Northside High, Warner Robins High, and Veterans High. This certification recognizes these programs as the apex of program quality.

Houston County High School has received industry certification for its Early Childhood Education Program by the Georgia Early Childhood Education Foundation. This certification represents the ability for students in this program to graduate with employable skills beneficial to the industry.

Pearl Stephens Elementary School has been chosen to participate in the USDA's Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program. This program helps children discover new nutritious snacks in order to stay healthier and more focused. Pearl Stephens will receive over $17,000 of allocated funds in order to provide these snacks to students. I will have more on this story next week.

Two young women from Houston County High School have been chosen to participate in an exclusive astronomy and physics program with NASA. Alyssa Griffith and Desiree Ledesma are among 84 female high school students chosen to participate in the Women In Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math High School Program , or "WISH". They will attend a six day camp in July at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. This program is in it's second year and was initiated by NASA in order to encourage more young women to pursue technical careers.

Congratulations to these schools, teachers, and students involved in these programs.
