Oh how the times have changed.

There was a season(s) in which teams might not have been happy to see the Wing T formation.

Not anymore, or at least not in the view of Northside Head Coach Kevin Kinsler, whose Eagles will host Grovetown Saturday for a 3 p.m. kickoff.

"It’s good that Grovetown runs the Wing T," he said. "All we’ve seen is 'spread', 'spread', 'spread'. People throwing the little screen passes and the dunks and dinks.

"Now we’re getting back to a team that runs the Wing T, a little more run-oriented so it helps our defensive kids stay focused because they’re seeing something a little different and having to learn a few more things."

Learning a few things but one of them is obviously not how to win. The Eagles, at 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the region are again at the top. Grovetown on the other hand - the victim of a 90-plus-yard scoring pass that snatched victory out of its hands last week - is mired in the pack at 1-4 and 1-1 in the region (1-1 puts it in the company of three others).

If its to win, running the ball is as good an option as any. One thing's for sure. Against a Northside defense that has allowed more than one touchdown in only one of its games (two shutouts, a field goal and one touchdown in the others) "spread", "spread", "spread", isn't working.
