Myles White provided the perfect bookends for what turned out to be an extremely contested game between Warner Robins and Houston County.

White, the Bears’ special team specialist and wide receiver, took the opening kickoff and raced 85 yards – right up the middle – to get things started. He then ended the game with a 48-yard touchdown pass from Taylor Boyett as time expired.

In between there was a ton of offense – including four touchdowns by DD Wright for the Demons - and a final score of 49-34, in favor of Warner Robins.

With Will Cowart hitting the extra point, however, Houston County - threatening to ruin Senior Night for the host - had an early lead. Early but short-lived. Rod Harris appeared as if he might duplicate White’s efforts on the kickoff. He took the ball on his 5 and raced down the left sidelines. He was stopped on the Houston County 46 but it took just six plays for Wright to notch No. 1. Matt Monday tied it up.

Coaches always say – in fact they did this week – you can throw records out the window when it’s a county rivalry. The Bears added plenty of credence to that as they answered the touchdown with a touchdown.

Talking the ball on the 20, they marked 80 yards for the score – although it did take a beautiful pass from Boyett to Cory Rumph in the corner of the endzone on a third and 15 to do it. Cowart made it 14-7.

Hite again scored following, this one was from 38 yards out, and again Monday tied it.

Houston County finally had to punt following and that gave way to a touchdown via Danny Hite Jr. His was for 34 yards and part of a seven-play drive that ushered in the second quarter. That made it 21-14 with Monday’s point after.

The Bears appeared ready to answer that – moving from their own 40 to the Demons’ 30 – but Boyett’s pass was tipped and intercepted by Michael Callaway.

Houston County did hold Warner Robins to a three-and-out, though. Problem was they had to punt, too, although it did pick up a couple of first downs prior.

The half came with the Demons up 21-14.

They made it 28-14 quickly in the third quarter when on the opening possession, Wright got loose for a 74-yard score.

Again Houston County answered. This time it was a 34-yard pass from Boyett to Samsung West.

Wright scored again after that. This one was from four yards out and capped off a nine-play drive that included a conversion on fourth down. It also came just inside the fourth quarter. Monday made it 35-21.

After a Houston County punt, Hite made it 42-21 after the point after. This time he scored from the 1.

End of story?

Not hardly.

The Bears again answered. West caught a 10-yard pass from Boyett and that made it 42-28.

Reggie Gordon and Monday made it a 49-28 game – he scored from the 6 – but still Houston County would not go away. Only the clock would do the trick. (See: White scored as time expired.)
