Alcovy, led by Ashley Williams, beat the Demonettes in the Sweet 16, 71-62. Williams scored 22 points but where she was just as important was underneath the basket. Warner Robins Head Coach Tom Mobley described her as “a beast”. That was a “hats-off” compliment to the 5-11 junior who has drawn interest from Auburn and Georgia. It was also a pretty good descriptive as she was a force to be reckoned with around the basket, pulling down rebound after rebound. She did it on the defensive end limiting the Demonettes to very few second shots. She did it on the offensive end, putting back shot after shot.
It’s perhaps best to sum it this way. With her in the ballgame Alcovy rolls to a 21-7 lead after one. Both score 22 in the second so Warner Robins goes in trailing 43-29. Williams sits out the third quarter. The Demonettes outscore the Lady Tigers 11-5 to start the third and go on to out-point them 23-7 over the eight minutes. They not only erase the 14-point deficit, they go into the fourth up 52-50.
Uh oh. Williams comes back in.
She scores nine points in the final eight, continues to pull down boards and Alcovy outscores Warner Robins 21-10. Williams finishes with 22.
Teammate Meagan Tucker who is the floor marshal nets 27.
Kenyona Armstrong leads the Demonettes. She has 28, including two three’s and going 10-of-11 from the line.
Diamond Hudson looks all over three-point land where she’s hot. She finally hits one in the second and then drops in three more in the third. She comes away with 14.
The back-to-back region champs end their year 24-5.
Elsewhere, Northside's girls also fell in the Sweet 16. The Lady Eagles lost 54-43.
