New energy efficient power strips will become widely used in Robins Air Force Base administrative areas in the near future.

Air Force Materiel Command, the parent agency for Robins, announced Monday it will distribute more than 77,000 of the strips for electronic devices in workstations throughout the command.

According to the AFMC press release, the new strips should save $5.4 million and reduce energy consumption over the next ten years because they are designed to "use significantly fewer kilowatt hours than traditional strips" and they "power down electronic devices when they are not in use."

Col. Douglas Wise, chief of AFMC's civil engineer operations and readiness division, said the strips will save an estimated 8 million kilowatt hours annually.

"The initiative will also raise awareness of energy conservation as we work to promote a culture of energy efficiency," Wise is quoted in the press statement.
