His nomination for promotion with assignment to the new position was announced Tuesday afternoon.
Jackson would replace Lt. Gen. Charles E. Stenner Jr. who has held the reserve post since June of 2008.
Stenner plans to retire, an AFRC spokesman confirmed, although the retirement date was not indicated on Tuesday.
Jackson is currently deputy chief of the Air Force Reserve.
He is a 1978 graduate of the Air Force Academy and completed more than 14 years on active duty. He is a command pilot with more than 3,600 flight hours in F-4, F-16 and KC-135 tanker aircraft.
