A federal agency reducing fines levied on a Houston County manufacturing plant regarding a workplace mishap last summer. Back in July a Kathleen man was seriously burned in a flash fire outside a propane filling station at Anchor Glass near Highway 247 at Booth Road. The Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration originally set a $20,000 penalty after an investigation uncovered three major safety violations. However, after a Tuesday meeting with Anchor officials OSHA has reduced the penalty to $15,000. The federal agency says the company is working hard to correct any remaining problems.
The bond hearing for Richard Sybert, the accused gunman in an alleged murder-for-hire case in Warner Robins, will not take place today as scheduled. The move made at the request of Sybert’s attorney, and is the second delay in the procedure within the last two weeks. No reason has been given. Authorities say Sybert killed Joni Clements back in February in exchange for $1,000, a car, and a date with a stripper. The murder contract was reportedly arranged by Sybert’s father Robert on behalf of husband James Clements. Both are also facing felony murder charges.
A long time Houston County non-profit agency providing job and life skills training to the developmentally disabled is expanding its facilities. The Happy Hour Service Center has acquired the old post office building on North Davis Drive for $180,000. The nearly 17,000 square foot structure will be the organization’s fourth workshop. The U.S. Postal Service vacated the building back in February, consolidating its Warner Robins operation on Russell Parkway. Ironically, that move paved the way for a contract mail station in the north Warner Robins run by clients and staff of Happy Hour.
